Bhel puri

 Bhel Puri is something which anyone who loves chaat would enjoy and is one of the most popular street foods in India . How often have you been busy rushing on the street only to be stopped by the smell of delicious chaat and you retrace your footsteps and will stop drooling only when you get your hands on a plate of spicy bhel ? Happens to me often . While bhel puri isn't a tough dish to make , it does require some patience on the chopping part and also in making the sweet and spicy green chutney . Here's the recipe for you.


Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Serves - 2
Ingredients:
Puffed rice (murmura)  - 1 cup  
Fine sev - 1/2 cup 
Papdi/Pooris used in pani puri - 6
Chopped Onions - 2 medium sized
Boiled and cubed potatoes  - 2 medium sized 
Tomato chopped - 1(remove the seeds)
Roasted/Boiled groundnuts - 1/2 cup 
Pomengranate - 1 
Green Chutney - 1 tablespoon
Red chutney - 1 tablespoon
Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
Chopped Coriander - a handful for garnish

Ingredients for green chutney:
Coriander leaves - 1 bunch
Mint leaves - 1 handful
Ginger - 1 small piece
Lemon juice - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - a pinch

Ingredients for red chutney:
Dried dates pureed  - 8
Tamarind paste - a teaspoon
Roasted jeera powder - 1/2 teaspoon 
Salt - a tiny pinch(to balance the taste but optional)

Method :
1)Mix all the chopped ingredients together along with puffed rice and crushed pooris/papdi.
2)Add the green and red chutney in a ratio of your choice and mix well.
3)Add the lime juice and mix and top with sev and coriander leaves while serving

For green chutney: 
Grind all the ingredients together with required amount of water to make a smooth chutney .Add water teaspoon by teaspoon to adjust the consistency so that it is not too watery.

For red chutney :
Mix all the ingredients together .

Notes:
  • Choice of ingredients is purely yours and based on your tastes and preferences . You can use corn,cucumber , boiled channa , grated carrots etc.
  • Serve immediately after mixing or it tends to become soggy
  • Children can also be served with a dollop of ketchup if they like it that way.
