Mangalore Bonda - Onion chutney :

Mangalore bonda
Mangalore bonda is a tasty - instant snack which can be whipped up using the simplest of ingredients. It is tasty and satisfies your cravings especially when you feel the urge to eat a tasty snack but do not have any elaborate ingredients .Different versions of the Mangalore bonda may be available with slight variations but I found this on a TV show and found it to be tasty . Can be made on those days when you feel the need for a savory snack without bothering much about calories.

Ingredients:
Maida - 1 cup
Thick curd - 3/4 cup
Green chillies - 2
Cooking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
Chopped ginger - 1 inch piece
Curry leaves - finely chopped a few leaves
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Pepper - 1 teaspoon 
Jeera -1 teaspoon
Salt to taste 
Oil to fry

Method :
1)Mix maida and curd without forming lumps . Keep aside.
2)Mix all the other ingredients and keep aside for 10 minutes.Beat well till it looks a little fluffy for crisp on the outside - soft inside consistency.
3)Adjust the consistency such that  the batter is thick ,it shouldnt be too watery.
4)Heat oil in a pan , deep fry in circular shape , you can use a spoon for dropping into the oil . Enjoy with sweet-spicy onion chutney or plain ketchup.


Recipe for sweet-spicy onion chutney:
Ingredients:
Onions - 2 chopped in large pieces
Grated coconut - 1 handful
Jaggery - two teaspoons (for sweetness)
Red chillies  - 4-5 (depending on size)
Tamarind - A small marble sized 
For tempering - Oil ,Mustard seeds, urad dhal ,curry leaves , a red chilly

Method:
Add all the items together and blend well in a blender.Add salt and mix well.In a tempering pan ,add oil and add red chillies,mustard,urad dhal and curry leaves and pour over chutney.
