Home Remedies for Sore throat

A sore throat is the result of an inflammation of the pharynx, the tube that extends from the back of the mouth to the esophagus.The onset of an infection is preceded by a sore throat in many instances leaving us irritated and and looking for relief . Simple ingredients found in your kitchen can be used to obtain relief from sore throats . Here are some home remedies to help you ease your pain from sore throats.Sore throats may be a sign of a bacterial infection like strep ,so if it doesn't get better after three days , please consult a doctor and take appropriate medication to help fight the infection.
Gargle With Warm Salt Water:
Add a spoonful of table or sea salt to a glass of warm water .Mix well and gargle the water .It draws the water out of your swollen mucus membranes, reducing swelling and pain.
Honey and Lemon: 
Mix two tsp honey and 1 tsp lemon juice with one cup of hot water. Allow to cool a bit then drink.It gives your relief by soothing your throat.
Hydration:
 Stay hydrated and take plenty of liquids to fight infections.Plenty of water is needed when you are sick.Liquids can be taken in the form of soups and broths too.

Turmeric and pepper:

You can add half teaspoon of turmeric powder and half teaspoon of ground black pepper to a glass of warm milk and drink it before going to bed.This helps to soothe the throat and can also fight infection.Pepper is a natural decongestant and helps thin out mucous.
Holy basil/tulsi:
Boil water with a few tulsi leaves and drink the water . It is an effective remedy for sore throat.
Ginger:
Add a piece of ginger about an inch long to water and boil.using this water , prepare tea the regular way and drink for relief.
